As you may have heard, on the 19th of May 2025 the new “Residential Tenancies Amendment Regulation 2025” came into effect.
These are the core changes:
* Require landlords to provide a reason to end a lease
* Ending ‘no grounds’ terminations for tenants
* Make it easier to keep a pet in a rental home for tenants
* Limit rent increases to once per year for all lease types
* Prevent extra fees at the start of a tenancy, including fees for background checks and for preparing a tenancy agreement and
ensure tenants can pay rent by bank transfer
* Some grounds for terminating a tenancy require the landlord to give supporting documents or information to show that the ground used is genuine
* The required notice periods for ending an agreement have changed and documentation provided such as “Termination Information Statement”
*Re-letting exclusion periods
Today we will look at “Notice Periods for Landlords to End a Tenancy”.
The amount of notice a tenant is to receive for a termination has now also changed.
I have also included the notice periods that the tenants are to provide you as the Landlord.
Please see the tables we have created attached.
